In the world of furry companionship, there are some pups who patiently await their forever homes, and Major is a prime example. This delightful canine spent over a year at a shelter, eagerly wagging his tail in hopeful anticipation until fate finally knocked on the shelter’s door.

Major’s journey was a tale of resilience and patience, waiting for that special human to step into his life. For reasons unknown, this pawtastic boy spent more than a year at the Naperville Area Humane Society, but when his destined hooman arrived, all those days of hopeful waiting became a distant memory.
Major And His Brother Saved From Being Euthanized
Before Major became the sweetheart of the Naperville Area Humane Society, he, along with his brother Hilo, faced an uncertain fate at a local shelter in Quincy, Illinois. Timely intervention by the NAHS staff saved them from euthanization, paving the way for their heartwarming journey.

Known for their quirky and delightful spirits, Major and Hilo became everyone’s favorites at the shelter. Their sociable and friendly nature, coupled with their love for games, made them stand out. Recently, the NAHS team shared a video showcasing Major and Hilo’s adorable temperaments, highlighting their unique qualities that had gone unnoticed for far too long.

As Major and Hilo reached their 365-day mark at NAHS, the shelter couldn’t fathom why these charming dogs were overlooked. The staff compiled a video, featuring testimonials from those who knew them best – the volunteers and staff. It was a heartfelt attempt to showcase the incredible qualities these overlooked pups possessed.
Overlooked Without A Valid Reason
Major, in particular, left everyone puzzled. Despite being a well-mannered, friendly, and easily manageable doggo, potential adopters continued to pass him by. Winston, a volunteer, proudly declared, “Don’t tell the other dogs – he’s the smartest one here!” Jane, another volunteer, expressed, “He’s such a lovebug, and everybody here at the shelter wants him to have his own family.” According to Pam, “Major is the sweetest little boy.”
The Day Has Finally Come
Then came Wednesday, the day that marked Major’s 372nd day at the shelter, and with it, a man named Jose. A semi-trailer truck driver who had recently lost his furry companion, Jose visited NAHS in search of a new four-legged friend. The staff immediately knew who to introduce him to – Major. The connection between them was instant, and after a brief introduction, there was no doubt: Major was the one for Jose.

Major’s departure from the shelter was both unexpected and emotional. He bid farewell to all his favorite volunteers, one by one, before leaping into the truck with his new dad.

Witnessing Major snuggle up to Jose through the truck window was heartwarming. He radiated peace and happiness, finally in the arms of his forever owner. And that smile – oh, what a pawdorable sight!
Endless Adventures On The Road
Even though Major’s address is no longer in Naperville, Illinois, his new life on the road with Jose is nothing short of exciting. The NAHS received updates, sharing Major’s thriving journey. He can now jump out of the truck by himself and loves snuggling with his new owner at night in the cabin. Major is living life to the fullest, embracing each day as a new adventure, and, most importantly, never stopping that infectious smile!
